Johan, norwegischer Soziologe, * Oslo 24. 10. 1930; Mitbegründer (1959) und 1966-69 Direktor des Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO); 1969 an der dortigen Universität Professor für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung; 1977-85 Dozent am Institut Universitaire d'Études du Développement in Genf; wurde 1985 Professor an der Princeton University (bis 1989) und der University of Hawaii. Die von einem Herrschaftssystem ausgehenden Zwänge für das Individuum analysierte er als Formen »strukturaler Gewalt«.
